Call for Submissions

The Surreal Botanists Association -- in conjunction with Two Cranes Press - will publish a comprehensive field guide to surreal botany. Too long has the scientific and gardening community ignored the world of surreal flora. It is our hope to compile a resource of all available surreal plants, along similar lines to A Field Guide to Behemothic Herpetofauna by Dr. Dean Jameson (last seen in the Amazon, presumed eaten).

An elected committee within the Surreal Botanists Association will oversee the submissions process and have the final say on acceptance. All manuscripts must be submitted through the online form; any submissions sent otherwise - such as through the mail, with bribes attached - may result in immediate disqualification. Bribes may not be returned. Authors are advised to keep submissions below 500 words, though longer lengths will be considered if the plant is an exceptional discovery.

Payment is one US cent ($0.01) per word, with a maximum payment of US$5.00, along with one contributor copy of the printed field guide, a certificate conveying lifetime membership in the Surreal Botanists Association, and a few other unique one-of-a-kind items not available anywhere else.

Entries should include the following information:
  • Class and order, if known
  • Family and Genus, if known
  • Common name
  • Appearance
  • Growth cycle
  • Ecology and geographic location
  • Date/location first discovered
  • Any physiological impacts and/or medicial use
  • History and mythology of the plant, if known.

Reading is period is from June 1st through July 31st 2006.
